Did you know...The four presiding officers of the Scottish Rite elect two members from the Valley of Dayton each year to receive this prestigious award. There are 10 Valleys in the State of Ohio, and only 14 members get the Red Hat in a given year. The OCD (Ohio Council of Deliberation) meets the first week of June. The awards are given at this meeting, and nominations are made for the following year. Year of faithful serviceis what it takes to get this award. A Brother who receives this honor has spent a good deal of his life behind the scenes, doing the necessary work to make AASR degrees and other functions possible. |
Meritorious Service Award MembersThe 'Meritorious Service Award' is conferred by The AASR "upon members who have attained the 32° and who by meritorious service of a Masonic character is deemed worthy of such recognition." Members are nominated by presiding officers of the bodies in a valley in the state. The presentation of the awards are made by the Illustrious Deputy or someone designated by him. In the Valley of Dayton, the recipients of this award can be distinguished by the Red Cap worn at Scottish Rite functions. What this means is, these brothers have gone beyond what is merely expected and given of themselves and their time to further not only Masonry, but humanity as well.
